TGHN LAC Webinar will address prediction of dengue cases in 2025
On October 31st, at 2pm (London), the webinar called “Preparing for the 2025 dengue season: insights from predictive models” will take place, promoted by the Vice-presidency of Education, Information and Communication of Fiocruz (VPEIC), via the Fiocruz Scientific Computing Program (PROCC) in partnership with the consortium The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC), by the Zoom platform. The event will be about the growing concern about dengue fever around the world. The webinar will have simultaneous translation into English, Portuguese and Spanish, with presentations by Claudia Codeço (Fiocruz/Brazil), Rachel Lowe (Barcelona Supercomputing Center/Spain), Flávio Coelho (Fundação Getulio Vargas/Brazil) and Marcela Santos (Ministry of Health/Brazil).
Currently, in Brazil and in other parts of the world, there is an increase in dengue cases in previously unaffected regions and altitudes. Organised by the Infodengue team, an early warning system led by Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) and Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), the event will launch a forecasting sprint with the aim of standardising predictive models, using the open-source platform, Mosqlimate.
The panellists are:
Rachel Lowe (chair): leader of the global health resilience group and research professor at the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), in Spain. Rachel is also a Royal Society of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Claudia Codeço: Fiocruz researcher for PROCC in Brazil. Claudia is a co-founder of the Infodengue project and a specialist in climate-sensitive diseases since 2002.
Mauricio Vegas: professor at the University of Los Andes in Colombia and technical advisor on health and climate. With more than a decade of experience in quantitative epidemiology and epidemic preparedness, Mauricio has a doctorate in the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases.
Flavio Coelho: professor at FGV, in Brazil, and main investigator of the Mosqlimate project. Flavio is a specialist in the epidemiology of infectious diseases through the application of mathematics, statistics and data science.
Marcela Lopes Santos: technical consultant for the general coordination of arbovirus surveillance at the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Marcela is a professor and PhD in Public Health with an emphasis on Epidemiology.
