‘How to use REDCap efficiently’ is the theme of an international webinar at Fiocruz

Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) (or “Electronic Data Capture Research”) is a free digital tool developed by Vanderbilt University to capture (or collect) data. Using the information acquired by the application, it is possible to support the development of health investigations. In other words, this use of data can be used to discover patterns, predict behaviours and, of course, to generate scientific knowledge through technologies. Despite being an application increasingly used by healthcare professionals in research, learning how to use REDCap efficiently is still a challenge for many in the field.

To expand access to information about REDCap and allow its use to be more efficient in research, on December 14th, Fiocruz experts will participate in the webinar “The use of REDCap beyond typical research and databases: efficiency in research”, organised by the Vice-Presidency of Education, Information and Communication (VPEIC/Fiocruz), through the Fiocruz Hub, in partnership with The Global Health Network. The event is open for registration and takes place with the participation of members of the Vice-Presidency of Research and Biological Collections (VPPCB) and the Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases (INI). The event will be broadcast on the Zoom platform, at 10 am (Brasília/Buenos Aires) and 1 pm (London), will be conducted in Portuguese and will have simultaneous translation into English and Spanish.

REDCap, what is it?

REDCap is an intuitive digital platform for collecting, managing and disseminating research data, also used to meet service and care demands and is widely used in the health sector as it is considered safe, including for confidential or sensitive data, in addition to being free to use.

The webinar “Using REDCapbeyond typical surveys and databases: research efficiency” aims to: describe ways in which REDCapcan be used to improve data quality, make data collection easier and more efficient, reduce costs and speed up field work; discuss the possibilities and variations of use that REDCap offers and its adaptability to research needs; summarise the minimum technical requirements and security attributes for use; and briefly address the administrative management of the tool.
