Fiocruz shares its experience in Pathfinder studies with members of the CIDEIM Network
Fiocruz and the Antonio Vidal Institute, as partners of The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC) Consortium, organised an online meeting on April 18 (Zoom platform) to share the experience in Pathfinder studies of Fiocruz with members of the CIDEIM Network (International Center for Medical Training and Research) in Cali, Colombia, as a Regional Training Centre supported by TDR Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, co-sponsored by UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO and hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO). This network is made up of researchers from various institutions and countries in the region, including Ecuador (Pontificia Universidad Católica), Guatemala (Universidad del Valle), Honduras (Antonio Vidal Institute) and Colombia. (CIDEIM, University of Antioquia) who periodically meet to share and discuss issues related to implementation research.
The Data Hub coordinator, Larissa Pruner Marques, and the research assistant, Laís Araujo, oversaw presenting the experience of the Pathfinder projects of Fiocruz and The Global Health Network, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. Pathfinder studies are associated with host studies and research on public health challenges. Fundamentally, they use an organised approach to processing research cycles, identifying obstacles faced by the host study, such as those related to skills gaps, technological infrastructure, systems and data tools. Therefore, they seek to help identify solutions to overcome these obstacles, expand the capabilities of the agents involved and promote scientific production and collaboration.
Additional information on Fiocruz pathfinder projects is available here. The discussion highlighted the challenges faced in pathfinder studies and in implementation research, especially in the aspects of technical and financial resources. The teams will continue to exchange information and collaborate.
