Fiocruz represents TGHN LAC at workshop on community engagement and participatory methodologies in Scotland
On 10 December 2024, a workshop titled “Community Engagement for Promoting the Health of Vulnerable Populations through Participatory Methodologies” took place in Dundee, Scotland, gathering around 40 NHS (National Health Service) Scotland health professionals.
The event was organised by the Public Health team at the University of Dundee School of Dentistry, in partnership with NHS Education for Scotland, the Department of Social Work at PUC-Rio, and Fiocruz, through the consortium The Global Health Network Latin America and Caribbean (TGHN LAC).
The workshop speakers were the professor at the Department of Social Work at PUC-Rio, Nilza Rogéria Nunes; the researcher at TGHN LAC Fiocruz and PhD candidate at PUC-Rio, Laís Araujo; the lecturer at the University of Dundee, Andrea Rodriguez; and the Public Health Dentistry Consultant at the University of Dundee, Niall McGoldrick.
During the workshop, the speakers explored topics such as best practices, strategies, and challenges in implementing actions targeting vulnerable populations. Activities included practical application exercises of participatory methodologies, such as memory and identity mapping, tools designed for community engagement in health promotion activities.
The event also marked the launch of the support material, "Practical Guide of Participatory Methodologies for Community Engagement and Health Promotion." The workshop was funded by the International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF) and supported by FAPERJ and TGHN LAC.
