Fiocruz honours researcher Marilia Sá Carvalho at Castelo Mourisco
On 12 August, the Scientific Computing Programme (PROCC), linked to the Vice-Presidency of Education, Information and Communication (VPEIC), gathered its researchers, including the team of The Global Health Network Latin America and the Caribbean (TGHN LAC), at Fiocruz’s Castelo Mourisco to recognize the professional career of researcher Marilia Sá Carvalho. The meeting was marked by emotion and joy and the presence of more than 30 people.
The celebration included speeches by the Vice-President of Education, Information and Communication at Fiocruz, Marly Cruz; the Coordinator of PROCC, Ernesto Caffarena; the founder of the Programme, Claudio Jose Strüchiner; researcher Claudia Travassos; the Scientific Editor of *Cadernos de Saúde Pública*, Luciana Alves; researcher Marcelo Gomes; and the honouree herself.
In her speech, Marilia spoke about how important her professional life is to her. “Personal life and work have always mixed, sometimes interfering with one another, but more often in a good way,” said the researcher.
The Coordinator of PROCC also highlighted Carvalho’s legacy. “Marilia teaches all of us by her example. I usually use one of her phrases that defines us well: PROCC is expertise that works together with others,” explained Caffarena.
During the ceremony, a recognition plaque in the name of PROCC was also presented by administrative analyst Ana Lúcia Teixeira, alongside the Vice-President, the Programme’s Coordinator and the honouree’s brother, Luiz Carlos de Sá Carvalho.
There was also the screening of a video with testimonies from colleagues such as researchers Dora Chor and Luciana Dias, Deputy General Coordinator of Stricto Sensu Education at Fiocruz, Enirtes Melo, and the Coordinator of Infodengue, Claudia Codeço.
The tribute marked the beginning of a new stage. According to Marilia, her retirement does not represent a rupture, but continuity with changes. A sign that her presence, ideas and influence will continue to inspire colleagues at PROCC and Fiocruz.
